Independent Me follows Amandla Bukhosi on a journey to independence. She realises that she is too dependent on others, and decides that this must change. She knows that it won't be easy instantly, so she takes it at her own pace. As she gets to high school, she discovers the importance of doing things by herself and thinking for herself. She discovers the best parts of who she is that have been suppressed by society and her environments, allowing her to fully embrace herself, as well as discover the confidence she thought she could never possess. At her young age, Amandla experiences new emotions and isolating challenges that alter the way she thinks, and sees people, as well as the world. In the end, she finds that through doing things scared and exploring different sides of herself and life, she was already the independent girl she dreamed of being.
