Certain scenes and statements are sprinkled in picked up by the reader but not the characters and i love it. Specifically the scene at Amanda and Dans house... i wont spoil it. I am really living for this book right now.

INCIDENTS AROUND THE HOUSE by Josh Malerman
Eight year old Bela has a friend, “Other Mommy”. Other Mommy lives in Bella’s closet. She comes out every night to ask Bela if she can enter her heart. Her heart?! That’s a big nope. But also? I *love* possession stories so…yay?
I was really into this and was expecting to give it a high rating after being legitimately freaked out by the Other Mommy scenes (especially the bathroom scene!). However, the characters and events toward the end brought the whole vibe down.
Bela’s mom is insufferable, her Daddo (yes, “Daddo” not Dad/Daddy) was nice but a total doormat. Even Bela got on my nerves.
Despite the lackluster ending, I did enjoy this fast paced, engaging horror as a whole. Maybe it’s because I listened to the audiobook (at night, with the lights out)? Definitely recommend the audiobook!
