Global Air, once the pride of the American airline industry, has hit some very turbulent weather. Pat Boyle, Global's up-from-the-ranks VP of operations, desperately tries to keep the airline flying... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Mr. Carlin paints a VERY realistic picture of the age-old conflict of greed vs. public safety -- realism that comes from his knowledge of the airline industry. (I should know -- I used to work for an airline.) And although you may never want to eat a hamburger again after reading Robin Cook's "Toxin," we don't have that luxury when it comes to flying (although you may wish you did after reading this book). We are forced to trust airline employees with our lives. A good read!

I could not put this book down. It is an exciting read. Mr.Carlin knows his subject from inside experience. This iswhat really happens inside an airline. The book discuses thepetty squables and power plays,as well as the rolling delaysand day to day mess ups. The reader is invited to see what isbehind the curtain in the airline industry from the viewpoint ofan expert. The business schools of the present day do not teachairline management as presented in this book. Please do yourself a favour and put "Incident Off Runway 31L" on thetop of your reading list this year.

Having worked for the airline industry, Incident Off Runway 31L, details a very realistic view of what happens behind the scenes, through really interesting characters and detailed situations. The mixture of business, airline politics, greed and human egos kept me mesmerized. I could not put the book down.
INCIDENT OFF RUNWAY 31L

With powerful dialogue and a fascinating pemise, INCIDENT OFF RUNWAY 31L is an excellent yarn and an important book. Because of Mr. Carlin's expertise in the field, I can believe that even in the airline industry, a life and death industry, there are those people at the executive level who are still most interested in the profit/loss statement. In keeping with this attitude, it was interesting to learn that an air disaster is termed an "incident" in airline jargon. In characters that are drawn out of the everyday or intuitive experience of the business world, Mr. Carlin evokes true themes of people you can root for and people whose very name makes your lip curl in disgust and dread. It was this aspect of his book, this coming to terms with the good and evil in humankind and how this struggle interfaces in real people in an all-too-real world of airplanes flying 36,000 feet high that makes the book a page turner. On the jacket cover, the book is described as 'not for the white knuckle flyer.' On the contrary, I think it is exactly the book for that audience and for anyone else who has an interest in which fights are fought and won,or lost, each day in such an incredibly life-impacting industry. INCIDENT OFF RUNWAY 31L has left an indelible impression on me in terms of thinking about the human egos, anxieties, challenges and needs that lie behind the shiny metal envelope I choose to climb into and trust for my vacations and business trips. I am thankful Mr. Carlin wrote such a book. A great read, entertaining, intriguing and intelligent, all in one go!

THE BOOK WAS VERY COMPELLING, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU, THE READER HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN THE CORPORATE TAKEOVER SCENE. THE DEPTH IN WHICH MR CARLIN DESCRIBES THE POWER,POLITICS AND RUTHLESSNESS IN THIS TYPE OF SCENARIO SUGGESTS THAT HE HAS EXPERIENCED THE PROCESS OR HAS DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH.THE BOOK GRABBED MY ATTENTION IN THE FIRST FEW PAGES OF THE 1ST CHAPTER, IT ONLY GOT BETTER FROM THERE.
