The present work should be viewed in the context of the diverse research activities aimed at finding and, if possible, establishing a suitable cell replacement therapy for structural myocardial diseases. Induced pluripotent stem cells, which are largely indistinguishable from embryonic stem cells and can be differentiated into cardiomyocytes, represent a fundamental possibility in this regard. The task was to characterize murine induced pluripotent stem cells in comparison to embryonic stem cells, differentiate them into cardiomyocytes, and characterize these. In addition, antibiotic selection of the cardiomyocytes and their purification using a fluorescent dye was to be achieved.
