At 25, Bryan McMurphy, a shy, good-looking young man, boards a bus in his hometown in Texas to join a band in Canada. On the way, out of cash and stranded in Montana, he meets childless, middle-aged... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This wonderfully written book brings together a multitude of themes. The link between the protagonist's childhood trauma and his destructive behavior cannot be broken by Blanca's insightfulness and grim determination. The story tells of a complicated relationship in which each member must deal with both rewarding and depressing consequences. While Blanca risks her own soundness of reason as she is pulled into Bryan's world, he is unable to absorb the impact of her commitment and allows his demons to rob his life of any real joy. This story offers an understanding of two people searching for equivalence to accept a differentiated world and important and incisive insights into the complicated theme of friendship, even if it is derived from an imbalance of mutual reciprocation. Carson adds warmth and readability to some otherwise difficult subject matter. This book is not for those looking for sugary sentiments, but should inspire us all to look past the obvious and acknowledge and sympathize with the pain behind yearning and self-loathing. In a perfect world, Blanca would save Bryan from himself. Instead, she is introduced to the darker side of life and is forever changed.

"Ute, I just finished "In Transit" which left me crying like a baby during the final chapters of Bryan's life. I could feel the emptiness and sadness in Blanca as if I knew Bryan myself, living the frustrations and tragedy of his life. Thank you for sharing your talent, your heart, your words. Teri"

I couldn't put the book down. Ute brings Bryan to life more than any character that I have read about. I know that he was a fictional character and my heart aches for him, but I am not sure that I would want to meet him. I was emotionally drained. I just wish that his hero, Uncle Otis, could have lived longer to see if he could have made a difference in his life. GREAT BOOK, I AM READING IT AGAIN.
Love Conquers All

This is a beautifully written book that shows the power of unconditional love. Whatever the impulse that prompted Blanca to befriend Bryan in her library, she stays with him through the good and the bad. And there is a lot of bad. Damaged by childhood abuse, Bryan is unable to fully reciprocate Blanca's friendship, often to his own chagrin. Blanca herself is fully human. She is no plaster saint. She is often deeply hurt by Bryan's surface callousness. Though she sometimes withdraws for a period, she always comes back to give to Bryan all that she possible can of herself. Every hurting human (and who of us are not?) should be so blessed as to have a Blanca in his/her life.
