Sean Allen, a young white teacher in an urban school, becomes embroiled in an interracial love triangle with Landi, the mother of a student he tutors, and Brenda, a fellow teacher. He attempts to placate both women by devising a convoluted plan to hide his relationships with them; a plan that is punctuated with romance, love, hostility and betrayal. Ultimately Landi and Brenda collude to expose his lies, even as their relationships increase in intensity and passion. Meanwhile the inner city community spins out of control - a vicious mayoral election, the murder of an innocent youth, an accidental murder of a gang member, a precipitous battle between warring street gangs and a public outcry regarding his relationship with Landi and Brenda. Filled with tension, suspense, hostility and passion this novel explores the corrupt state of affairs in the schools, the city, and the country that are played out every day in school districts throughout the country. Nevertheless, despite all the outward differences between races, there are more similarities than what first meets the eye.
