In the Shadow was written by the author at age 18 while still in high school and never published. It has been revised and follows the senior year of Stephanie Taylor. Set in 1966 when the Vietnam War covered the pages of newspapers and was the lead story on television newscasts, this is a simple story of a young girl living her life in a small town in Kentucky yearning to find the truth about her birth parents and dealing with the everyday struggles of a young girl coming of age during turbulent times. The war was a continent away so they continued to live their ordinary lives. Not until they would face friends going off to war after graduation would it become a reality. It's a simple story of romance and sibling rivalry and the need to find the truth of who she is to be free of the shadow that has enveloped her life.
