Philip Miller is an American who has never been to Venezuela. He quickly becomes adrift in a world of dangers he does not understand, and experiences both love and hostility as he navigates modern Venezuelan society. His story begins in 2009. Hugo Ch vez, the country's socialist-leaning president, is charting a new course for the country with his "Socialism for the 21st Century." He wants to cut all ties with Venezuela's past except for the glory of the Liberator, Sim n Bol var, and direct the nation on a revolutionary path. Philip unwittingly becomes part of President Ch vez's "Revoluci n," and a pawn in the "Great One's" vision of the future. He sees history first-hand, then gets catapulted into an unforgiving universe where he no longer controls his own destiny.
