In the Quiet by Adrienne Ross

The main charactor is Samantha (Sammy). She has a thing for magic. She finds everything by digging in the dirt with her friend, Bones, who has no friends but Sammy. Sammy's mom died and she was determined to get her back by finding her treasures. Bones liked to help Sammy, but sometimes she had to do things alone, like finding a sign of her mother. The plot is amazing. First Sammy and Bones are just friends and dig in the dirt at eachother's houses and find amazing things there. Later though Sammy's aunt comes to her house and when Sammy has had almost enough with her, her aunt becomes better. The aunt gives Sammy her favorite sweet along with the bottom part of a picture of her mom. Sammy got curious and went into her mom's room and got her jewelry box and found a message written by her mother. She was nervous to show Bones. Then she went by herself to the Pegasus Rollercoaster, which was forbidden and is now run down. She used the message and realized she had to go to the control room, and she looked around. She then found another jewelry box under some old cloths. Read the book to find out what she finds. The setting of this book is in the present time- in her neighborhood and in the Pegasus rollercoaster area. The theme of this book is to never give up. Even if you are in a position like Sammy's you can get through those obstacles if you keep at it. I loved this book, so I gave it a 5. I always knew what they were doing and talking about. I was never lost. This book described things well. I would really recommend this book to young readers.

in the quiet

I think this is a very well writtin book i was into it full time. This story explains how if you lose a loves one you'll never see this person again unless you look deep inside your heart, you will see that person once again.

A terrific story for young readers.

Samantha is on a quest for magic, digging up secrets in neighbors' yards and earning the wrath of many. Since her mother has died, Sammy has used her activity to mask her emotions; but a special and unusual aunt breaks her habits and allows her to explore her hidden feelings.

Sensitive and engaging

A quality addition to the wonderful world of children's books! The author hasn't forgotten what it's like to be an eleven-year-old girl; she nails those feelings of loneliness and awkwardness, the turbulent relations with adults, the bond with a best friend, and (best of all, I think) the intense desire to be involved with something mysterious. In this case it's a mystery with emotional depth. Right on, Adrienne Ross!
