The real thing

A disclaimer: this reviewer is highly biased, inasmuch as he grew up an MK (missionary kid) in México and spent time with the Puckett family at their home in Mecatlán, Veracruz. That having been said...this book, while redolent of genuine Christian evangelical missionary fervor, offers the reader a rare, honest and vivid look into the life of a missionary family abroad. Most people only have (at best) a vague notion of what the missionary life is really like. Or their notion of what missionaries are about is a highly distorted one manufactured by Hollywood, slickly packaged for the big screen. The Puckett family were - and are - the real thing, and they bring that reality to every page of this book. It is highly recommended reading for anyone who wishes to gain an intimate understanding of what motivates some people who feel "the calling" to become missionaries. You'll likely find it difficult to set this book aside, once you've begun to read it.
