Based on the author's personal experiences, In The Eye of The Beholder follows David Adler, the main character, who finds himself wrestling with his own prejudices and belief system as his twenty-five-year-old gay daughter transitions to male. There has been little written about the subject of Transgenderism, and even less about the effects it has on the family members of the person transitioning. Despite their efforts to support their children, despite their positivity, most parents are engulfed by unexpected grief for the son or daughter they have suddenly "lost." They find themselves in a quandary, wanting to help while, at the same time, feeling robbed of their past and of all their cherished family memories. For many, complete understanding is too difficult to achieve and estrangement follows to some degree. For the few, however, despite the life they no longer recognize, they come to realize that sometimes there are other versions just as rewarding and meaningful. In this way, they make their own transition and find their way to love and peace.
