In the Dead of the Night

By Jeanne Flemming

When the owner of the crumbling local resort suffers a stroke and his family begin circling, the people of St. Mark's, New Brunswick know some feathers will be ruffled. But they aren't expecting their tranquillity to be shattered quite so completely, as an unexpected corpse appears. Blaine Stevens, the old man's grandson, is found dead on the shore of the Bay of Fundy. The millionaire techie whiz kid could have just gotten lost in the woods-except for all the stab wounds.

A former Toronto beat cop turned small-town constable, Laura West is called in alongside the RCMP to investigate. Already facing the problems of being "from away" in a small town where everyone knows everyone else, she must balance the demands of her personal life while navigating the deep pockets and deeper rifts in the Stevens family, which reach across borders and into boardrooms as far away as Silicon Valley. But just like the tides in the Bay, danger always comes back to where it began.
