The literal events and underlying sequence of these two periods, which Scripture references repeatedly and highlighted by Jesus specifically, provide both a tool of biblical interpretation to support that which God's prophetic Word provides concerning the Second Coming overall, and one of personal discernment to properly understand the nearness of His impending return. Scripture revisits the lives and times of these figures because such illustrate the greater underlying spiritual nature of what will take place in the overall environment, while at the same time confirming the sequence and milestones provided in the rest of God's Word as to how the final timeline of the eschaton will unfold. They are much more about the conditions leading up to the end rather than the end itself. The example of Noah and Lot is so important in the teaching of Christ concerning His Second Coming that it is not only featured in His personal response to non-believers, but yet again to His most loyal and faithful followers as well. But it seems that because these stories have become over-simplified into the stuff of children's Sunday School songs and Vacation Bible School crafts, we don't seem to study the full depth of all that Scripture is providing. Essentially these are biblical equivalents of the secular mantra that those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. What took place then is taking place yet again on an even grander and deeper scale both literally and spiritually with an ever greater ultimate fulfillment in the making. There is much to learn from these figures which goes beyond just their behavior and respective spiritual condition during the defining final event in each experience, but even more so in the much longer prelude leading up to it. As with the rest of God's prophetic Word, there is much more accompanying the scriptural accounts directed at what believers are supposed to do with the information than to merely be aware of it.
