In The Aether is a tale of failure and redemption. It is a story about the sometimes futile, but nonetheless necessary and heroic struggle to overcome evil. Having just returned from the devastation that led to his father's death in the Crusades, John is a young noble in medieval Europe who has to embark on a dangerous journey from his native England to northern Spain to collect on an old debt. He has to face all manner of foes along the way. The most formidable of which are perhaps the daemons of his own making. Relativism wars with objective morality in a battle for his soul. Caroline is a young woman in a near-future dystopia. Her parents were killed in the aftermath of a dirty-bomb attack on Boston, the same attack that turned the United States into a suffocating socialist police-state. Bored, lonely and unemployed, Caroline leads a life without consequence, without purpose. That all changes when she crosses paths with her childhood crush Liam. Enthralled by the prospect of finding meaning, Caroline joins forces with Liam and his band of rebels to fight against the tyranny of socialism and repression. With strong natural law undertones, loosely inspired by the works of some of the great natural law philosophers of old, these stories merge to paint a picture of the human struggle to find meaning, of good overcoming evil and of order eternally battling to impose itself upon chaos.
