On a hot August morning they found her head tossed on a bare wood floor that had been removed with surgical precision. Not a drop of blood was visible on the floor, walls or on the hideous head.

Her eyes were wide open in a horrible stare of fear vacant of life she had once known. The bizarre reality was that the head was the only part of her anatomy found, having been precisely removed from her body. No wonder they named the killer "The Surgeon." The head belonged to the mayor of Memphis, Richard Dennison's lady named Connie Flannigan.

Dirk Bogart, a private dick, and his partner, owner of the night club named the Blue Note and piano player of the club's jazz trio had been assigned by the mayor personally to investigate the case. The duo had been involved in a lot of bizarre cases but this one was the most heinous and deadly case of them all.
