In Past Tense: Breaking the Circle

In April of 2017, a fellow poet from Australia reached out to me to work on a collaboration. This began an immediate bond. We found a beautiful connection and friendship through our poetry. There seemed to be a long distance love affair taking shape. One I thought of as an impossible meant to be. We wrote together for about five years. During those years, my poetry became centered around this very confusing, emotionally draining time. When I began to review the over three hundred poems for a book, it became clear. I had been creating a false picture in my head of what this was. As my eyes were widened to reality, I decided that cutting ties was in my best interest. The direction of the book changed course. The result is a collection of poetry where you become the passenger on my emotional roller coaster. Hopefully, we all exit the ride feeling optimistic for the future.
