This short book was written to overcome objections and inconsistencies against the doctrines found in the core beliefs of Calvinism Throughout the discussions centered around the five points of the T.U.L.I.P there is concise Biblical basis to stand in defense of Calvinism, as well as bring a basic understanding to many of the misconceptions of what Calvinists believe. Since the reformation and the beginning of the Protestant church, there have been many saints who have sought to better understand the mystery of salvation. While attempting to have an intellectually or spiritually better understanding of the act of how one is saved is not a necessary tenant of the gospel, (grace alone, faith alone, Christ alone), as Christians we of course desire to know the deep things of God. 1 Corinthians 2:10-12 "these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God." In fact it would appear that desiring to know the deep things of God is fruit of the Spirit at work in our lives, deeply desiring the heart of the Father. That being said, while the intellectual debate of how salvation takes place does not change the work of salvation, it certainly can change our approach to how we have assurance in our salvation, peace in our redemption, understanding of the promises of God, and ultimately grow us in compassion towards the lost sheep. What would stand as a fool's errand would be to take the wisdom poured out by such men as John Calvin, William Tyndale, Wycliffe, or Bonhoeffer and cast it aside as 'unnecessary divisive debates.' The reformers were no scriptural slouches. They were not interested in exegeting opinions, rather they were searching after God. They weren't seeking to 'win an argument,' because winning the argument for many meant death. These men and many others devoted every ounce of their lives to studying and expositing the scriptures. While their words may not be divinely inspired, many of them spent more time studying the divine than men in our day and age. Furthermore, not all of the reformers, but many of them gave their lives as martyrs and their blood is spilled out on the altar before the Lord (Revelation 6:10) awaiting the day of restitution. This alone deserves the honor of our time to study our brothers who have gone before and hope to glean an ounce of wisdom from them. It is important to understand the fundamental basis of what most refer to as 'Calvinism.' Calvinism can be clearly defined and reduced to the acronym of the "T.U.L.I.P."
