Book Overview

They call him the Raven, the most feared pirate to sail the Atlantic, his black cloak swirling about him like the dark mystery that hides his identity. In the days preceding the War of 1812, his pirate ship swoops down on English frigates in tropical seas, and he takes what he wishes. But he meets his match in Miss Rebecca Talbot of Washington. Taken captive while accompanying her beautiful sister on a voyage to London, Rebecca makes a daring bargain. In return for her sister's safety, she will become the Raven's mistress. What happens next stuns them both. Their time together is a revelation, a storm bound by flesh and spirit neither can control. But the day comes when Rebecca and her sister are rescued, and they must say goodbye. Back on land, Rebecca tries to get on with her life, until she hears a shocking bit of news: the Raven is dead. But life still holds surprises for Rebecca, in the person of an unexpectedly attractive man, with secrets of his own. With events building toward war, she have the chance of a future, if she has the courage to grasp it. If she can forget finding love...in a pirate's arms.

Sara's Review

I thought this book was wonderful and if you like very romantic and true love stories this is the book for you!

emotionally wonderful

this is the first mary kingsley book ive read and i find it amazingly beautiful..The cover may look like just any other typical pirate-plotted story but the new elements like a father who could not love his self-sacrificing daughter and a pirate hero who does not have the normal ego-laden machoism is quite refreshing. He seems almost real with his vulnerabilities as well as his abilities to understand rebecca's (the heroine) pain and wants in life. i find that the story weave in and out smoothly but i wished that the author had shed more light on what further happened to rebecca's father and her sister Amelia. Somehow i wished the father had shown some sort of regret more. All in all i love this book and hope very much that there's a sequel! or somehow an extension of another story to it with reference to Marcus and Rebecca's continued future.

An intensely romantic story

Wonderful settings, wonderful locations, especially the scenes set at sea. (I liked both the battle scenes and the chess scene). While I guessed immediately that Brendan and Marcus were the same, it didn't bother me. I thought the interplay between the two characters was terrifically romantic. What I want to know now is, when is Mary Kingsley going to write a sequel
