Smitley jumped head first into the mystery / suspense genre with his debut novel, Implied Contract. With so many viable suspects, Chief of Police Mason Klauss has his work cut out for him when attempting to solve several cold cases at the request of the beautiful small town city attorney. While Smitley, following Tom Clancy's lead, tends to go overboard in educating the casual reader on the intricacies of weaponry and ballistics, his knack for weaving together the complex crimes and believable characters is extraordinary.

I am a retired federal agent, and current part-time police officer. This thriller, written by a former police chief, will keep you riveted to your chair. The expertise of the author, from his years in law enforcement, really added to the book. Even as a long-time police officer, the identities of the perps involved in the tale were skillfully hidden from me by the author, until he was ready for them to be revealed.

This book will be hard for you to put down.
