This book puts forward a framework for the implementation of lean manufacturing in the food manufacturing sector of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria by focusing on identifying and eliminating the seven deadly wastes in process, people, and productivity for new and current food manufacturing facilities with emphasis on continuous improvement using performance to target as the driver. The implementation of this methodology will benefit the people of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria by establishing sustainable and efficient food processing factories, and by so doing, it will help improve the economy of the region, create a competitive advantage over imported processed food, which will improve the country's GDP, reduce the cost of food due to a reduction in production costs, increase productivity in the agricultural sector, and reduce poverty by creating employment. In contrast to other lean implementation methodologies, the "4Ps Minus 7 Deadly Waste" approach to lean manufacturing implementation offers a tailored, performance-driven solution for lean transformation in the Niger Delta's food manufacturing sector. This concept's approach is designed to enable a true continuous improvement in an existing or new process without completely overhauling the entire factory; it ensures that a one-size-fits-all approach to the implementation of lean manufacturing is not taken and that actual problems are resolved, not just a blanket implementation of a series of lean manufacturing tools without consideration to what is working well and what the actual problem that needs to be addressed is. The approach of this implementation methodology, using key performance indicators to determine what area (people, processes, and productivity) to focus on and eliminate the seven deadly wastes, will give employees (people) a sense of ownership and empowerment without excessive training that does not consider their capability or education level by enabling them to follow a simple stage-gated approach to lean manufacturing implementation.
