He gave Paul back to me!

After hearing the interpretations of St Paul in various churches, from various pulpits, from childhood, I was convinced that he was a dismissive misogynist, so as a strong, intelligent woman, I dismissed him. Even though early on I realized that a good deal of what was presented to me as Christianity and women's 'place' were personal interpretation of the particular, almost always male, cleric, Paul still stood out as a very damaged person - certainly not one to emulate or trust - and I was curious as to why/how such a person could get to the position he did, converting so many - including women. After reading this book, I realize that the picture of Paul I was given WAS very distorted and that he was, in fact, very much the opposite of what had been presented because so much was deliberately left out by the early church policy makers and slavishly followed afterwards. Amazing what analyzing an *entire* Epistle can do towards illuminating somebody's real character/ opinions/ teachings and how much the 'abridgement' and deliberate misinterpretation of the fearful earlier Church authorities can do to distort a message of love and inclusion!!
