Impact of Radio in Promoting Sustainable Agriculture

This study explores the effectiveness of radio agricultural programs in discouraging bush burning practices among farming communities in Benue State, Nigeria. It highlights how radio serves as an accessible medium to reach rural audiences, providing information on sustainable agricultural practices and the environmental consequences of bush burning. Key findings reveal that specific programs like "Farmers Digest," "Filling the Basket," and "You and Your Environment" play significant roles in educating farmers. However, the study identifies challenges such as poor program content, language barriers, and limited listenership that hinder the impact of these radio campaigns. The study recommends enhancing program content, utilizing local dialects, and sustaining the campaign's frequency to ensure continued engagement and effectiveness in promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
