Impact assessment of Twangiza Mining

This study examines the case of Twangiza Mining, a subsidiary of Banro Corporation. Twangiza Mining is the first industrial mine in South Kivu, where, until Banro's arrival, only artisanal mining activities took place. Nevertheless, the impacts documented by the research team through field visits, the testimonies gathered and the grievances raised by local communities clearly demonstrate that the socio-economic and environmental effects resulting from the activities of the subsidiary Twangiza Mining SARL could have serious consequences for the future.
