Evie Johnson's life can't possibly get any worse. Her beloved grandmother has taken ill. She has been living with her while her father has been serving in the military. But now, she can't go with her father, her mother is dead, and her grandmother is in a home. So with a little-known scholarship, Evie finds herself sent off to the Wyldcliffe Abbey School for Young Ladies out in the moors. Evie grew up by the sea, and she can't imagine what it will be like so far removed from the water she loves. She has to take the train to the school, and the cab driver refuses to take her all the way to the school, calling it a cursed place. In the dark cold rain, Evie struggles with her bags through the trees to the school. It's in the trees that she is hit by a dark brooding boy on horseback. She's tired, dirty, and is distraught to find her mother's photo frame broken on the ground. The mysterious boy helps gather her belongings and murmurs he will see her again. When Evie sets her picture frame beside her bed, she's surprised to find that it's in one piece, the glass not broken at all. She begins to believe she imagined the encounter and the strange boy, but then she notices the gash on her hand, from a piece of the previously broken glass. This begins her first night at the school. And things do not get better for Evie. She's taunted by one of her roommates, Celeste. Evie's place at the school is due to the mysterious death of Celeste's best friend. And as part of being a scholarship student, Evie must help crazy Helen Black with some of the chores after dinner. The only bright spot is the friendly gesture by one other girl, Sarah. The mysterious boy returns, and soon Evie finds herself sneaking out after hours to meet Sebastian. He gives little information about what he does during the day, and Evie makes many requests to have him call properly at the school. The more mysterious Sebastian seems, the more intrigued Evie becomes. When Helen starts to watch over Evie and get her in trouble for sneaking out, hints of stories told to Evie by her grandmother start to make more sense. IMMORTAL is an intriguing and dark tale that intertwines the past and the present. With glimpses into the past through a character's diary entries, Evie learns who she is and what she must do to survive and protect those around her. The story captures the reader from the first page and draws them in until the final one. There was so much mystery as well as romance throughout the entire story that it should appeal to a large audience. Reviewed by: Jaglvr

Page turner

When Evie Johnson's grandmother, Frankie, falls seriously ill she gets sent off to Wyldcliffe Abbey School for Young Ladies. She likes nothing about the school. The head mistress is horrible and the other girls are mean. The only thing that keeps her sane is Sebastian, a mysterious young man that she meets on her first night in Wyldcliffe. As the story unfolds, Evie begins to see that not all is what it seems at her new home. This story of self discovery is intriguing and extremely well written. I can only hope that there might be a sequel in the future.

Great book that will keep you wanting more!!

The book is about a girl named Evie that has lost most of her family and is sent to live at a boarding school that has some very interesting things going on. Evie finds that see can open up to who she realy is and let people into her life and then she can truly accept her destiny and her true love. This book will give you a the idea of what it is like to live in the late 1800s and still deal with the same problems then in todays high paced world. I think this book would make a great movie

Charlotte

I had been hoping for a lot when I was recommended this book by a friend and it didn't live up to expectations: it was even better than promised. This is one of the best books I have read this year. It produces a real sense of mystery against a Gothic background and the story is fast moving, eerie and, in essence, about young love. But not a love that can easily be satisfied and only as the tale unfolds can we see the real tensions between the main characters and their futures. There are turns and tricks in every chapter and it is impossible not to feel for the heroine as she moves between threats, dangers and doubts. Can first love last forever? If not then something would have to die. Or would it? You must read this book for yourself to find out. A genuine 5 star rating for me.

Enticing

This book was an enticing story. The story is about a 16 year old girl Evie Johnson who is ripped from her life by the sea to attend an all school called Wyldcliffe. After Evie's grandmother who has helped raise her after Evie's mother dies has a heart attack and put in a nursing home, Evie's farther who is solider and and away on duty most of the time finds a way to get his daughter a scholarship into the elite Wyldcliffe Abbey School. A school made up of mostly rich stuck-up girls. At the school Evie finds herself getting in trouble a lot. She is also very lonely as she is hated by most of the other girls there. Until Sebastian comes into her life. She sneaks around at night to be with him, and finds herself falling in live with him her first love. But Sebastian has dark secrets that he us keeping for Evie. Secrets Sebastian feels will make Evie hate him if she knew. Secrets reveal themselves after Evie discovers her family heritage and her link to Wyldcliffe. But dangers awaits Evie as she discovers her true power. It is a beauifully written about the power of love. Shields ends the story with you wanting more. It ends with what seems like the promise that there will be more to the story. I would recommend this book to anyone. Especially those who enjoy supernatural romance, such as theTwilight series, The Immortal series by Alyson Noel or the Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr.
