Imitations of Immortality is a collection of poems written in the style of Emily Dickinson. They explore a variety of topics familiar to readers of Dickinson (nature, death, religion, everyday events) In a variety of tones, from the serious consideration of life's greatest mysteries to the light humor appropriate to life's surprises and ironies. The author incorporates Dickinson's most notable technical traits as well: slant rhyme, strong rhythm and metrical pattern, alternating tetrameter and trimeter, paradox, uncommon usage of common words. But a reader need not know of these characteristics to enjoy these short, straightforward poems: they stand on their own as original comments on universal human experience.
