Book Overview

Public order in rural, politically divided Port Townsend, Washington, has been shattered by a series of bombings made to appear as though Native American activists are responsible. Henry Ivers, an aging county sheriff already struggling with family and professional challenges, soon finds himself thrust into escalating ethnic and retaliatory violence.

Although he suspects student activists may have staged the original destruction, Ivers' investigation is diverted by the sudden appearance of an antigovernment militia hoping to capitalize on the situation. Ivers' personal vulnerabilities complicate his preparedness to contend with the crisis-particularly when his confidence is shaken by broken beliefs, mistrust, and the discovery of his daughter's possible involvement in the bombings.

Sheriff Ivers must choose between competing personal and professional loyalties and find a way to achieve redemption and acceptance in the midst of the violence and chaos engulfing the once-peaceful Northwestern region.

Imagined Glories realistically demonstrates the power of an ordinary man's triumphant spirit through hope and perseverance as he overcomes anguish and loss.

"Imagined Glories reveals the fragility of our social fabric and makes us look inside and see things we'd rather not."
-Margaret Zelkin

"An extraordinary read. Nagy's story is gripping and his prismatic language is stark and original."

Nagy knows the Northwest. A terrific read!

Nagy understands what makes people tick. He understands young people's want for something more - something better than what they know. This book captures real human emotions - emotions experienced when people are overwhelmingly tired and emotions when people do things that don't make sense. This book captures activism from all sides. It captures our fear of terrorism. Throughout the book we are reminded of relationships with family, with friends and with everyday people who enter our lives serendipitously. Reading "Imagined Glories" brought me back to a place I love - the Northwest - especially the Olympic peninsula. Nagy captured it all - the smell of the rain, the color green, the slick roads and the independence of the people. If you like stories about real people solving real issues, you'll like Sheriff Ivers.

Exciting Read!!

This novel is the kind that you don't want to put down. It is exciting and full of action. Having been in the Pacific Northwest many, many times I was able to visualize what the author was describing through the descriptions and attention to detail and that made it even more fun to read. There are only a few authors that I have read that are able to describe events, places, and scenes in such a way that you feel like you are right there, but Casey has the ability to do just that. The character of Henry Ivers and the struggles that he goes through make you think about many current struggles and conflicts going on in our own world and how we are dealing with them. All of these conflicts going on in the story keeps the book moving along at a rapid pace and I literally could not put it down. Awesome read, don't miss out on this one!!

I loved this book!

I loved this book! Being that I'm a native to the Pacific Northwest, and have spent 20+ years of my life discovering the Olympic Peninsula, I enjoyed being able to visualize the settings and events of where this story took place. Nagy had a fascinating way of bringing color and depth to the plot through his discussion of controversial issues, both past and present, surrounding Native American Indians, and how these tie in with our own struggles with social, political and familial unrest. It really made me stop and think about how our society is pulled in so many directions, and through all the trials and tribulations we face day to day, I realized that the one mainstay in my life is truly what the author believes to be true, too. The story was exciting, and I look forward to his next book. Thanks for a great read!

Excellent Read!

This book really kept me interested and anxious to keep reading. The descriptions and attention to details made me feel as if I was right there in the Pacific Northwest with the characters. The way Casey was able to articulate the thoughts and emotions of Henry Ivers, as well as the other characters, was terrific. I felt as if I was actually living through the trials and tribulations the characters were going through. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys trying to solve real-life puzzles. I hope there's a sequel!

What a great novel!

I was not disappointed! And you won't be either! I've read a lot of books and this one I could not put down. It had me from the first page, kept me interested! I laughed, I cried, I cheered. You won't want to skim through any of it either. You may miss some of the action. And speaking of action - I'd love to see this as a movie! Casey describes the events so well my head was spinning with the speed AND so real I could almost feel the blows. This book visits some real and current issues, without taking sides, and then invites you to do the same. To be an active participant in your life, being aware of how it is woven into others in ways you could never imagine. Thanks Casey, for writing this! (I really like the cover, too. My compliments to the artist!)
