This book is a selection of images of Ely which is dominated by its great cathedral, rising above the River Great Ouse, which welcomes visitors each year from many countries and its unique Octagon, which has been described as the finest in the world, is its crowning glory. Ely's name is said to come from the number of eels caught in the Fens and for many years tithes were paid in eels. Ely also has many other attractions including Oliver Cromwell's House, gardens and walks, curiosities, variety of architecture, and a Russian cannon captured during the Crimean War. England's only stained glass museum is housed in the south gallery of the cathedral.
