Book Overview

Now a Netflix original movie, this deeply scary and intensely unnerving novel follows a couple in the midst of a twisted unraveling of the darkest unease. You will be scared. But you won't know why...

I'm thinking of ending things. Once this thought arrives, it stays. It sticks. It lingers. It's always there. Always.

Jake once said, "Sometimes a thought is closer to truth, to reality, than an action. You can say anything, you can do anything, but you can't fake a thought."

And here's what I'm thinking: I don't want to be here.

In this smart and intense literary suspense novel, Iain Reid explores the depths of the human psyche, questioning consciousness, free will, the value of relationships, fear, and the limitations of solitude. Reminiscent of Jose Saramago's early work, Michel Faber's cult classic Under the Skin, and Lionel Shriver's We Need to Talk about Kevin, "your dread and unease will mount with every passing page" (Entertainment Weekly) of this edgy, haunting debut. Tense, gripping, and atmospheric, I'm Thinking of Ending Things pulls you in from the very first page...and never lets you go.

They charged me 50 dollars for a paperback

I paid 50 dollars for a hardcover and the sent me a used paperback with a sticker on it from hot list book for 3.99 absolute joke

Flopped for me

This book only began to get interesting after page 100. Alot of parts were long winded and seemed to drag on. I was really trying to give it a chance but the ended just ruined it for me. There was this big build up to something huge and it fell flat.

An adventure into a nightmare

A twisty and bizarre journey in book form. I couldn't put it down. For those who love a good, atmospheric story of weirdness and eerie events. It's one of my favorites.

Very Heavy-Handed

This story comes across as if the author does not trust their audience to piece together clues on their own, and instead makes each hint at the upcoming "plot twist" as overt as possible. This was frustrating, because there was so much potential in this story and I truly enjoyed most of the storytelling. I know many people have reviewed this book and think it is a fantastic read, so it is definitely worth a shot if you enjoy a good thriller. However, if you are the type of person that can usually see a plot twist coming, this book may be underwhelming for you.

Best book I've read all year by far

absolutely incredible book, it left me feeling unsettled and very satisfied with the ending. probably not a book to read in the dark alone, or maybe you should just to enhance the unease:)

Fantastic

I read this because I found out Charlie Kaufman is directing a film adaptation for Netflix of this book. Now it’s one of my favorites.

love love loved it!!

I have not read a book like this ever. Very well written and a fantastic ending. I found myself in the female role and I could relate well to the book itself. I would and have recommended this book to anyone who wants a weird, twisty book.

Sometimes, the best literature gets delivered to our television screen before we've had the chance to read it. But even if you've already watched, it's never too late to read. Here are the books behind 26 of the best adaptations on Netflix right now.
