It's a good book.

I gave myself completely and absolutely to Lily, the 12 year old main character of Susan Thame's "I'll be Home Late Tonight." Her precocious observations of the crumbling world around her are astounding; she has a talent for delivering one-liners that force you to put the book down, stunned with their beauty and reality. Lily's mother June is a finely crafted, complex character who, despite the emotional abuse she loads on her daughter, never becomes just another bad guy in the eyes of the reader. You'll be glad to take a seat in the back of June's Buick for this rough but rewarding trip through the deep south.
