Il ?tait une fois (Once Upon A Time) is a family memoir. The title is inspired by the author's lifelong fascination with France and a chance meeting there with a former commando and sporting hero, which would change her life. The author kept a regular diary, but this is her only book. It is a great love story, a story about historic events that the writer witnessed during the Blitz in London in World War Two and experiences of evacuation as a child. It is the story of post war France, Brittany, Paris and Menton. It is peopled with wonderful friends and fulfilling experiences and simple pleasures and is a gift to the younger generation, so that they may appreciate more what they have and understand where they came from.
