Mastering the Fundamentals

What do successful athletes, entrepreneurs, investors, parents, and people from all walks of life have in common? They have mastered the fundamentals. Sure, there are distinctions and nuances of performance which can give you the edge, but it always comes back to the basics. In basketball, you need to practice free-throws every day. In sales you need to pick up the phone and make calls or get in front of potential customers - every day. Professional musicians practice their scales and fingerings - daily. Why? Because mastering these basics is what keeps them on top of their game. TJ's book is an excellent collection of classic stories for and from high achievers. He shares these stories as well as some of his own to illustrate the 13 principles. Many of these stories I was familiar with. However it had been years since I had read them, and I found it newly inspiring to come across them again. I also found stories that I had not heard before, which were equally inspiring. There is a zen philosophy which talks about the "Beginners Mind." Always being new in the moment. When we have the mindset of "I already know this" or "I've heard this before" we can lose the spark that is present when we approach something as new. It is easy in life to forget to be new in the moment. We get caught up with work, families, and responsibilites. We find ourselves in a rut. As a peak performance coach, I'm aware that many times what people really need is to be reminded of what they are capable of doing. T.J's book does just that. He reminds us of what is possible. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in success and achievement. If you know the importance of being new in the moment and of mastering the fundamentals, you will find the value in this book and take it into your own life.

Eloquent, Fun, A Solid Reminder of the Fundamentals

TJ's book is a poignant reminder that success in life can be predicted and planned regardless of the set back, road block or personal circumstances. He does a really nice job of sharing experience (both his own personal experiences, as well as the experiences of others) when illustrating the application of his 13 laws. The book is a quick read, enjoyable, elequent and one that can positively impact the lives of all ages or circumstance. His writings remind me that success is no respector of persons and that the principles that govern success can be applied by all. I appreciate his no-nonsense, entertaining way of bringing me back to the basics. I have requested that my staff read his book and brainstorm ways we can overcome common challenges in our professional arena.

You can't argue the credibility of the endorsers
