You walk into a room and someone says, "how are you?" You probably respond "fine, thanks." Well, that's because we've been unconsciously taught that people who ask such questions don't actually want the real answer, right? It's more of a courtesy. So instead of telling the truth, we lie. We pretend to be okay even if we're really not.
That's why I wrote this book. Because I thought you and I could use some time together where we just don't have to pretend at all. Where we say the uncomfortable things out loud. Where we tell the truth, even the parts we've never admitted to ourselves. Think about it, why do we even feel the need to say phrases like "if I'm being honest" before we say what we really think? When I hear that phrase my first thought is always "well what were you being before?" I truly hope this book gives you the courage to be honest about the things you feel, because I discovered that's where the healing truly begins.
