Cannot get enough Toho (Kaiju eiga)

Not a lot of Toho films are individually offered. But in this case, who cares even if you have duplicates? I watched many of these movies at the drive-in. They still make good watchers when you are up late. Just do not name your cats H-Man or Mothra. I made the mistake of naming one of my cats Gojira, and now I must keep counting my fingers. I watched the English and the J-a-p-a-n-e-s-e versions; they do vary somewhat in scenes and dialogue. The H-man (Bijo to ekitai ningen) People go missing. Their clothes are left behind. The police think it is a neat trick. A scientist suggests other things are afoot. We have a love interest. There are car chases and smelly places. You will have plenty of opportunities to kibitz. You will be mesmerized by a cutie, Martha Miyake, singing "So Deep is My Love." ------- Battle in Outer Space (Uchû daisensô) I saw this in J-a-p-a-n-e-s-e and English. The original title is Uchû daisensô. We are in for a treat as the director is Ishirô Honda (1911-1993). He is known as the father of Gojira. The world is being attracted by an advanced colony that uses an antigravity beam. While hero, Maj. Ichiro Katsumiya (Ryô Ikebe) goes rambunctious in space. Back home in the Fort…oops, base, cute Etsuko Shiraishi (Kyôko Anzai) holds it all together. Lots of action and alien treachery. I hope we will win. Be sure to watch the voiceover commentary as it is better than the movie and explains a lot about the actors, set, and writers. ----- Mothra (Mosura) Don’t bring your date. That is correct, don’t bring your date, because they say that a Mothra is attracted by a flame. Maybe that is why those two pint-sized cuties got Mothra to go to Tokyo. Oh, all right, it was telepathy. Mothra, unlike some other monsters we know, will worm her way into your heart. Anyway, Tokyo is always trying to defend itself with military solutions. Some claim that Mothra was “Shot in Toho scope.” However, they never came near her Toho scope. Did anyone think of surrounding the island with giant mothballs? Mothra meets the standard J-a-p-a-n-e-s-e Sci-Fi formula of having the standard good guys and bad guys and dumb guys and an environmental theme. Personally, I think Mothra was lucky that Rodan “Rodan - Dubbed in English” did not catch her in the larva state. You know what they say about the early bird. Two things to keep in mind. This is not the last of Mothra, and the soundtrack is for sale. Look for - Mothra: The Best from 1961-1998 (IMPORT) (SOUNDTRACK)
