In characteristic style, the author encompasses the diverse fields of molecular biology, philosophy and ancient religious cosmology, tracing a meaning and a purpose so arcane and yet so logically reasoned, one wonders why no one appears to have thought about it before.
Building upon the work done in the previous book, The Sacred Ibis Speaks, his combined writings knock out the central logical flaw in the Intelligent Design hypothesis ( that complex entities must have a designer, who must also have had etc. etc. ) and achieve what many scientifically-minded religious writers have struggled to do: uniting scientific with religious thinking in a unified vision of Humanity's place in the Universe.
The entity we think of a 'God' is named the Ultimate Ancestor. Humanity has evolved in such a way as to provide the Ultimate Ancestor with a collective consciousness which is, in a sense, the manifestation of the Ancestor or ' God '. It is for this reason that Humanity has evolved increasing intelligence and developed more sophisticated civilisations.
The ultimate purpose of this is that, when Humanity is ready, the 'Human phase of evolution ', will come to an end and the Ultimate Ancestor will be able to manifest Itself as an Omnipotent Being, a fully-formed Deity.
In other words, Humans are a phase in the evolution of the 'God' that set the evolutionary process in motion. The key concept is what the author refers to as ' the predisposition of God to be or to become God. This is a fascinating idea.
