I Wonder What's Under There?: A Brief History of Underwear
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
ISBN 0152766529 - While most lift-the-flap books are for children and both the author and the illustrator work in children's books, this one doesn't feel as much like a book for kids as you'd think. Beginning with cave dwellers, who ran around naked, through the Egyptians, the Dark Ages, the French Revolution and more, right up to the present day, the undergarments worn by people are explained and shown. The lift-able flaps provide the modesty we're all used to. Older kids might be a suitable audience for this book, and that's a personal call for parents to make. Some of the illustrations are likely to cause some giggling - a sure sign of immaturity - such as one braies, part of which is a pouch on the front of a man's underwear, or the myriad of bras shown. Some parents will find the lack of modesty to be an issue, but most will realize that bathing suits show just as much flesh as shown in any of these illustrations. Author Lattimore's work is informative and the paper engineering of David A. Carter is amusing, if somewhat limited. - AnnaLovesBooks
Cute, interesting and fun

After appreciating another one of Ms Lattimore's clever childrens' books, I spotted this one and ordered it too. My whole family had a good giggle with this around the dining room table, and talked about the relative merits of the different styles of underwear through the ages and different cultures. My daughters are particularly happy not to be living in the Victorian era and suffering with corsets! Cleverly designed and well illustrated - and a good way to address childrens' curiosity in a wholesome way.
Good book

I thought this was a really cute book - obviously well researched, and a really neat concept. This is a good book for anyone 6 years or older.

As something of a amateur underwear wearer I found 'I wonder whats under there ?' an inspirationol read.Y fronts have become inverted catapults of tradition and nether pleasure in my eyes.I did'nt know a gusset from a corset before this.Lifting the flaps of the book gave me a nether vista previously hidden to me by the conifers of my upbringing.
