I Want the Truth

The Utopia we were promised did not happen. The future we were promised has not arrived. The Big Story, the Grand Narrative within which we lived and defined ourselves is gone. As dazzling as the gadgets of the digital world are, the virtual world is an empty substitute for our old, messy real one.

Is this really all there is? A world with no meaning? A personal life with no purpose? A thousand "friends" on social media, and more alone than ever? Was Shakespeare right, our "brave, new world" is "full of sound and fury signifying nothing."?

The famous scene in A Few Good Men occurs in a military courtroom:

"LTJG Kaffee: I want the truth
