Disenchanted, Waldo leaves his old chums, from the PI Shop and his subsequent career in films, behind him and starts a new life. He moves to a park home site called Oakfield Lodge, south of Bristol. The estate is owned and managed by Norma Parkinson, who is a formidable woman. He and all the other residents respect and admire her. Billie, who rents one of the homes, is always getting into trouble and, from time to time, her boyfriend becomes sexually violent. On these occasions, Waldo's medical background comes in handy. On Norma and Waldo's advice, Billie seeks a new partner and lands herself the headmaster of a private school on the Somerset Levels. After a few weeks, Billie disappears. The headmaster claims that "She just upped and left me", but the circumstances look suspicious. The headmaster is a fanatical believer in globalisation and his sister, Aseneth, a mover and shaker in the internationalist movement. Norma and Waldo decide to investigate. The investigation leads to the South of France, contact with MI6 and Waldo's handler, Uncle Allan. Life becomes very complicated when Waldo falls in love with Aseneth. Aseneth loves Waldo but gives priority to an important conference of world leaders. Waldo rescues Billie but Uncle Allan and many others are killed.
