The inspiration to write "I Remember Grandpa" came from my grandson Corey when he was almost four. He was very attached to his grandfather whom he adored. After his grandfather passed on, on several occasions my daughter would hear Corey speaking on the phone. Believing it to be nothing more than child's play, she curiously asked who it was he was speaking to? "Grandpa" he answered. "May I speak to him too, she asked?" "No, I'm the only one who has the number," he replied.Because I consider myself to be spiritual in nature and have a strong recognition that our life here is not the beginning nor is it the end, I was motivated to write a children's storybook on spirituality because I somehow believe that young children still retain some memory connected to their previous realities. Corey served to strengthen that notion within me.My dad died when I was also not quite four. I know I would have derived greater comfort from the difficulties I experienced from that loss if I had been read to from a book such as this. In fact, I don't know if such books for children were even available back in 1945. Happily today, there are many books dedicated towards reaching a healthier understanding on the subject of death and dying for children who have experienced the losses of loved ones.
