This was an awesome telling of Medusa's side of the story! Is she perfect? No. Does she not always make the best choices? Yes. Do you end up rooting for her anyways and really wish she could have had a better ending? Yes! This story really brings Meddy to life, making her feel real and I loved it, even knowing it was still going to end the same way. She leaps off the pages with her earnestness to help others, make friends, and find justice for wrongs done to others and a willingness to do anything to protect those she loves.
I really like how Ayana Gray shows the wrongs blamed on Medusa, how even in the games of gods, how wrong it is to punish the victims, which is an big issue still today. I rooted for Meddy the whole time as she traversed from her island where her family lived, to Athens and the wider world full of wonderous and awful things unknown and waiting to be discovered. This story contains so many feels and I loved it all! I also loved the closeness Meddy has with her sisters, especially after the punishment, but also the friends she makes.
This is a great tale retold and I am so glad I got the chance to read this side of Meddy that needed to be told, good and bad that she does and the tragedy of victims blamed while the powerful are above it all.
