Patricia F. Mouille is married to Kostas Petras, the third of six sons in a large and tumultuous extended Greek family. An amusing, often embarrassing, almost slapstick collection of short stories, I... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I really enjoyed this book. I recently read two French authors: "Suite Francais" by Irene Nemirousky and "Wandering Star" by Nobel Prize Winner, J.M. LeClezio. Their subject matters were much more serious, somber and prosaic, but I found Ms. Mouille's writing style to be quite similar: Fluid, simple and clear. I Married a Greek was so humourous and suspenseful in a light enjoyable sort of way. Very nice. Very good. I do hope she recovers her "Little Green Book."
Laugh away!

What a wonderfully happy, funny book of short stories full of experiences with Greek relatives on Greek vacation. Don't be misled by the first rather somber story as this collection really picks up. The chapter 2 & 3 altogether cracked me up. There I was laughing at the heroine in her happy little swim, then PAIN and TERROR, then the creeeeepy feelings expressed at that dreadful hospital...all the while she keeps up her happy little spirit, entertaining us all with tears and laughter...What a girl! After reading this book I have a whole new grasp on having patience with husbands and family and in laws...I will re-read it every time a feel I little bit down. If only it were a movie. I'd be first in line!

I am planning a trip to Greece this summer and thought this book might be insightful. Was I in for a treat! I just put the book down which I thoroughly loved, and may now extend my trip so that I am certain to enjoy some of the same experiences as written. Ms. Mouille's style of writing is so descriptive and full of life. Did I mention her sense of humor??? I hope she continues to share with us her Greek experiences.

Put this book into my bag and devoured it in one sitting at the airport. A fast read and wonderful journey to a country I have always dreamed of visiting. From the family humor and tension to the USA born wife's loving approach to all family matter's, it had me laughing through out the story as I met each of the characters and experienced life first hand in a small village. A must read for anyone who loves the juxtapositions of cultures.
