Art & Poetry Collectible

This is a children's book made for adults. Lines of the poem include, "hot like peppers i rub on my lips thinkin they waz lilies", and "i got 15 trumpets where other women got hips". The poem by Ntozake Shange, who is known for her play, "When Colored Girls Consider Suicide", is perfectly partnered with Bearden's sublime art. He's brilliant with shape and color and his ability to make the viewer feel the movement, the sound, the emotion. This is one book of a series, including the first, "Life Doesn't Frighten Me", a poem by Maya Angelou, art by Basquiat, and "Journey on a Cloud", the text is by Veronique Massenot, and the beautiful illustrations are by Elise Manso, and were inspired by Marc Chagall (initially published in France).
