I Didn't Order a Hiccup: A Very Bouncy Delivery

By Winnie Larkspur

He did NOT order a hiccup.

But one showed up anyway - on a Tuesday, right in the middle of his best tower ever. Hic. Twelve blocks, gone.

He is the manager of this body, and he does not approve of bouncing without permission. So he opens the manual and tries everything. Holding his breath? Nine and a half. Water from the wrong side of the cup? Mostly up his nose. Hiding behind the curtain? It found him in four seconds.

Nothing works. So one very organized kid picks up a crayon and files a TROUBLESHOOTING TICKET. ISSUE: broken engine. URGENCY: maximum.

Dad reads it very carefully. Twice. "This requires a hard reset," he says - and holds out his arms.

From the creator of I Didn't Order a Baby, I Didn't Order a Monster, I Didn't Order a Kiss, and I Didn't Order Grandma comes a fifth deadpan-funny story about a big feeling - this time, the wobbly frustration of a body that won't take orders. It lets a kid file a formal complaint against his own body, takes the complaint completely seriously, and then closes the ticket with the softest hard reset ever issued.
