I Called Myself a Christian

What does it mean to be a Christian? That term is so loosely thrown around among those whose lives lack any evidence to show for it. Beneath the fa ade of my Christian identity, my only expertise seemed to lie in the realms of gossip, hypocrisy, deceit, and sinful behavior-all the while projecting a self-assured image of being a follower of Christ. Listen y'all-Jesus walked on water, but I was walking on thin ice.

My sanctification all started when I presented one request to God. I'll admit, I barely believed I was being heard. At least I thought that's when it started. I later came to the realization that He had been knocking at my door all along, the difference this time being, I opened it.

I Called Myself a Christian is an embarrassingly vulnerable testimony revealing how I was reconciled to God by his abounding mercy. He turned what I thought was a good life into abundant life (John 10:10); He gave me peace that surpasses understanding (John 14:27). He set me free of things I didn't know I was enslaved by (Romans 6:6); He gave me lasting gifts the world cannot offer (Matthew 7:11). All by handing the reins of my self-controlled life into the hands who reigns over all. By committing to a relationship with Him, He has begun to remove the blindfold of deception and uncover the banner of truth, teaching me that Christianity is deeper than a belief, but a lifestyle.
