Patrick E. Iyahen got converted to the Catholic faith in high school, at age 13. But he found other good Catholic people wherever he went, who helped him to sustain the faith. One of them was Mrs. White of Madison, Indiana, in the USA, as he reflects in the following excerpt from this book. 'My faith went with me to the United States of America, where I studied at Hanover College, Indiana, from 1970 to 1974. 'Hanover College is a Presbyterian College; it is not a Catholic College. While I was there, my faith found support from some good people. I had a mother-figure in a Black woman named Mrs Frieda Cosby, a very nice lady who worked in the kitchen. Mrs Cosby was to later introduce me to a friend of hers, a Caucasian called Mrs White, of Madison, Indiana. Madison is the nearest big city to Hanover, which was a rural town. 'Mrs White actually played the role of mother to me in all practical terms. The White family was Catholic. They were wonderful people. Every Sunday, Mrs. White would drive five miles to Hanover from Madison, take me to a Catholic Church in Madison and drive me back to Hanover before heading back home. Every weekend, she would take away all my dirty clothes, including my underwear, everything She would return them, washed and ironed. As a matter of fact, my mother wouldn't do that for me back in Nigeria, at the age I was then. On my birthday, Mrs White would give me a cheque as a birthday present, even when I had moved on to Mexico to study Medicine.'
