Ideas control the world. They control your world. Many of my sources agree with this quote by the humanistic philosopher Erich Fromm: "Man can be a slave even without being put in chains...The desires and thoughts that the suggestion apparatus of society fill him with, chain him more thoroughly than outer chains." This book is presented as a Mental Mirror for you to look into and examine your thoughts from new perspectives. In the process, you may come to agree that you are not your thoughts. That revelation will open up a journey of Self-Discovery that you probably have not yet traveled. Each chapter nudges you to ask another question--to dig a little deeper. I use parables and metaphors throughout the book along with accounts from my own life. Since I had vigorous Bible training in my earlier life, I feel free to challenge the slave language so commonly taught in churches today to dis-empower people. We have the resources for fulfilling our potentials. The roadblocks are lurking in our own subconscious minds sabotaging our progress. They are just thoughts and our thoughts are not us. I think you'll enjoy the process of coming to "know thyself." I don't know if it will turn you off or on, but my latest revelation came recently while working the chapter on Consciousness: around the age of two, "the pre-frontal cortex gave birth to its Self--the first level of Self-awareness." I hope to join you on the inside.
