I Am Neurotic: (And So Are You)

"Hand-Washers Unite, Online" - Rolling Stone

"Does it make me neurotic that I find this site immensely soothing to read? Soothing " - Scott Lamb, Buzzfeed

You can′t get through the day without checking to see if your front door is locked three times. You take exactly two tablespoons of cream in your coffee which must be swirling while you pour or else it just doesn′t take right. The worst part is that you have to do all your neurotic habits discretely because you don′t want people to know. You′re not alone though. iamneurotic.com is a collection of anonymously submitted neuroses revealing the habits that we take care to hide from others.

While sitting in the bathroom stall waiting for everyone to leave, Lianna Kong realized her own neurosis: she can′t use the bathroom when other people are around. I am neurotic was born. What started as a blog where Lianna and her friends could share and joke about their own neuroses turned into a form of confessional therapy for others. People eager to unburden themselves of their hidden habits began to anonymously confess their neuroses and in turn learned they were not the only ones to sniff their floss or avoid the cracks in the sidewalk. I am neurotic congregates the best neuroses from the website and unseen submissions accompanied by photographs. The result is a book that will demonstrate how neurotic behavior is highly amusing, shocking at times, and ultimately a great human equalizer.

This book is absolutely hilarious. I read the whole thing in one sitting (not hard to do as it is approximately 3 sentences per page with beautiful, perfectly corresponding photography) and laughed like a crazy person out loud alone in my bedroom. It does not make fun of the quirky behaviors, and I actually was (sadly) able to relate to quite a few, which made it all the more pleasant. A must have.

"I Have To Eat Cheetos With Chopsticks..."

Lianna Kong has compiled a great little book of idiosyncrasies which have been posted anonymously on her web site. They are funny, and there is no editorial judgement or mockery of any of these odd behaviors, although many people may be relieved that they aren't as strange as they think. The book consists of about two hundred neuroses illustrated with brilliant color photographs taken by Matthew Stacey. The behaviors themselves range from quirky to startlingly bizarre. There are too many great entries to mention all my favorites, so I've chosen two that fascinated and amused me to provide the gist of the book: "I have to transfer the brain of my old toothbrush to the new one. I do this by holding the heads of the toothbrushes an inch apart and making a buzzing/zapping noise. Then I wobble the new toothbrush to show that it received the old one's brain." And my personal favorite: "When I eat colored sweets (Skittles, Smarties, etc.) I have to arrange them by color, then pull out enough of them to create a Fibonacci triangle before I eat them (in ascending numerical order). Any excess sweets that do not fit the pattern have to be eaten in one go before I can start on the patterned sweets." This is a funny book that is not critical of odd behaviors, but celebrates them as humorous quirks. I recommend it for anyone self-conscious of peculiar harmless behaviors, or anyone who wants a good laugh.

One of the best books I own.

Man, I saw this book and HAD to have it. One of the subjects I am MOST interested in is that of Psychology and Mental Illness, and especially those people (maybe you are one?) who have little quirks that we, as humans, consider odd. This book is JUST that. All those little quirks, except knowing these are real, laid out for your enjoyment in a beautifully bound, expertly designed book. I guarantee that all of you will go through this book and say "Hey, I DO THAT!" at LEAST 20 times... Or... Is that just me? If you DO do that, buying this book will help you feel like a more normal person in society. Recommended.

Very interesting read...everyone can relate to this book

Quite a unique way of looking at the quirkiness of human behavior. After going through most of the book I can honestly say that it made me feel better about some of my neurosis and 'OCD-like' behaviors. Definitely recommend picking up a copy for yourself or a friend.

This is a great book to flip through for a quick laugh, whether you're sitting on the couch, lounging around on your bed, or sitting on the toilet waiting for someone else to leave so you can finally go. The fantastic photos accompanying each neurosis serve as humorous backdrops, illustrating the futility/hilarity of your everyday life.
