Jack Foster and his crew at the South Pole found themselves threatened by an alien device trying to take Earth's natural resources. That device, the size of a refrigerator, was buried in the ice pack with a companion device at the North Pole.

Discovered by Erin O'Shay, working on her thesis 'Seals, Penguins, and the Blue Whale: Impact of Climate Change', it started a race to identify the alien visitors and find out what they wanted. O'Shay, along with Foster; Martha Sanders, security chief; Ralph Morehead, second in command; and George Lester, FBI, faced a battle to fend off the invasive action without using force.

In only a week's time the team faced a suicide, a murder, a kidnapping, and trying to convince the President of the United States to trust in a wild plan.

And, despite the pressure to save Earth, there still was time for romance.
