I Am Mary Shelley was entertaining. The author writes in a direct and unpretentious way. The author was part of a group that did past-life regressions that included lives during the period of the English Romantic poets Shelley and Byron and Frankenstein author Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. The author's mentor was the Yoga teacher, astrologer, and hypersentience regression practitioner Marcia Moore, who herself remembered being Lord Byron's last mistress Countess Teresa Guiccioli. The book acknowledges the problem with these memories when it says that word of the group's researches and claims got around and multiple modern-day acquaintances then came forward claiming to be the reincarnation of this or that yet to be identified character during that Romantic time period. The author and her group did a lot of research which in some cases validated their memories. The book discusses reincarnation theory at the same time that it tells entertaining stories of past lives. If a conclusion can be drawn from the group's researches, however, it is that past glories are no substitute for living life in the present. Just because one remembers being a poet in one life does not mean that one can or should be a poet in the present life. Self-knowledge is fine, but too much absorption with the past prevents one from finding new goals and challenges in the here and now.
