I Am Even Happier To Know Jean Eck & Her Wonderful Book!

What can I say? Jean is so honest when she writes and I truly love this quality in her latest book "I Am Happier To Know You." As an expat living in Egypt, myself (for 7 years), I truly could not of said it any better than Jean. She captures every little detail of life in Egypt. Her indepth explanation of the sounds, smells, and tastes of Egyptian life is brought to life in-front of your eyes, as you read her book. At times, I felt I wasn't reading - I was just mearly watching her life unfold hear step by step and inch by inch. She has truly done the unknown and remarkable endeavours to create this book. Going were most people don't dare go; she went full force into a life of the unknown and came out to tell about it in "I Am Happier To Know You." I highly recommend this book to anyone that simply once to be able to let go of all you ever known but, just can't! Jean Eck makes it all come true for you in "I Am Happier To Know You."

I was thrilled to get a copy of I am Happier to know you. As a former expat who lived in Egypt for many years, it was insightful, refreshing and humorous. As Americans, we see Egyptians through the media's eyes. Having Jeanne bring the true spirit of the Egyptian to life again in this book made me fell like I was back home in Egypt again. Its a great book about a warm and hsopitable country with all their idiosynchrocies included for a dash of humor.

What a delight! This book works on many levels. First it shows not to fear changing your comfortable environment for the unknown. And it also shows that it is never too late, even if you are alone, to change your life. "I Am Happier to Know You" is a book about a single, middle-aged American woman who has chosen to trade her comfortable home and lifestyle in the US for a totally different existence in Egypt. The book recounts the author's first impression of Egypt, where she previously came as a tourist, and the compelling hold the country had on her. It tells of the problems of making the move itself and of leaving family and friends behind. It tells of the many problems the author had of learning to live in a completely foreign culture. The author, Jeanne Eck, has a way with words to explain her feelings and reactions to the sometimes bizarre situations in which she found herself. Ms Eck has a wonderful sense of humor and a sense of spirituality that shows on every page. As an expatriate living in Cairo, I found myself nodding and smiling when I read anecdotes to which I could relate. I, personally, have sent copies of this book to friends in my own country to explain, better than I ever could, what it is like living here. "I Am Happier to Know You" is about the courage to live life with heart and laughter, and a reminder that people are still people everywhere. This book is a gem and deserves recognition!

Since 9/11/05 when I purchased I Am Happier to Know You, I have read this book three times already. Its wonderful, informative, funny and gives you the inspiration to pack your bags and see Egypt for yourself. It's a book you can't put down until you finish, easy reading, the cool thing is you have a dictionary that explains all the Arabic words at your fingertips. A MUST READ. Mary Lewis, LaPlata, Md.
