Michelle Fulkerson fought her way into the world at just 23 weeks gestation and weighing only one pound. Against the odds, she survived and thrived. An avid reader, she started writing poetry and short stories at age 12. Around that same time, Michelle began struggling with anorexia, anxiety and depression. She kept a journal where she wrote with poignant honesty regarding her mental health struggles. Michelle wrote up until her death, just 4 months shy of her 18th birthday.

This collection of poetry and short stories reveals a young woman's courageous struggles to overcome mental health challenges and embrace her full potential. The writing explores topics ranging from anorexia and depression to worthiness, hope and young love, with poignant images and searing emotional honesty. Her poetry reveals that Michelle was a passionate person, with strong feelings and opinions regarding the social and cultural issues in the United States today. The author's drawings and photographs are used to illustrate the book, bringing another dimension to the experience. Michelle gives us a rare glimpse inside of a girl-turning-young woman, with a depth of perception, wisdom and imagery that belies her age.
